LATHAM, NY – Full-service carwashes posted solid volume and revenue gains in 2001, although online labor expenses continued to climb disproportionately, according to the soon-to-be-released Professional Carwashing & Detailing 2002 Automatic Survey.
Data shows that full-service carwashes posted, on average, gross revenue per car of $13.60 in 2001, a hefty 13 percent bump from 2000, where the average responding full-serve brought in $12.06 a car.
The survey will indicate that full-service carwashes did a solid job up-selling customers in 2001, as the price of a basic carwash actually declined from $10.92 in 2000, to $10.59 in 2001.
Aside from bringing in more revenue per car, full-service carwashes washed more vehicles in 2001. The average responding full-serve washed 67,989 cars in 2001, up 5 percent from 64,744 in 2000.
However, additional revenue produced by increased volume and gross revenue per car seemingly did not offset increases in on-line labor salaries experienced by full-serves in 2001.
The average responding full-serve spent $314,200 on on-line labor salaries in 2001, a 10 percent increase from the $282,300 spent on on-line labor in 2000.
