RAPID CITY, SD ― The Rapid City Regional Airport is adding on a $2.9 million carwash that will wash rental cars, the Rapid City Journal reported.
The June 24 story said the airport sold 20-year bonds to pay for the carwash. Car rental companies contracted with the airport will pay for the carwash.
The plan to build the carwash was approved in 2010, but the construction bid was not assigned until last May to Dean Kurtz Construction.

Airport Board member Todd Ossenfort was against the plan. "I don't believe it falls under the Rapid City airport's mission to provide a car wash for the rental car agencies," Ossenfort said in the story. "It's not the mission of the Rapid City airport to provide a $2.9 million facility to the rental car agencies."
The car rental agencies involved are Hertz, Budget, Enterprise, Avis, Alamo and National. Rental agencies not part of the agreement will not be allowed to use it.
