There are several options for outfitting employees - uniform stores, catalogs and manufacturers, to name a few. But outside laundries and textile rental companies are two kinds of businesses that can help ensure that all garments are cleaned and pressed so that your employees project a crisp, professional image.
These businesses focus on their specialty and offer many advantages over having employees do their own uniforms at home or having employees try to use your in-wash equipment to keep uniforms clean.
Uniform rental programs can provide you the number of garments you need, in various styles, sizes and colors, and will adjust the amount to your changing workforce. They'll also sell uniforms and accessories for that can meet your special needs.
Employer-provided uniforms are a valuable untaxed benefit to employees who can now spend less money buying, cleaning and repairing their work clothing.
Dual-Purpose Uniforms
Work uniforms have symbolic as well as functional advantages, and they can enhance three critical business needs:
Organization. Uniforms communicate stereotypes and messages - the authoritative police officer and the "sandwich experts" at Subway locations, for instance. They facilitate employee identification and discipline.
Branding. Distinct color and emblems - a brand image - make employees easy to identify in the crowded marketplace.
Like any brand product, a familiar package enhances credibility and professionalism. The company becomes recognized as a brand, much like Century 21 real estate agents are identified by their gold blazers. With this strategy, small mom-and-pop companies can make the same impression as large companies.
Consistency. People perform the carwash services; it's not product-oriented like a snack-food vending machine service, so some inconsistency is unavoidable. However, customers rely on common cues when evaluating service quality, and uniforms can help provide those cues.
Better-looking, clean uniforms also help managers build employee morale and pride because uniforms can give workers a feeling of being part of the team.
Although a uniform program may not eliminate turnover and absenteeism, it can improve the entire service package and create a better working environment.
