ELBA, AL — A 19-year-old here still had two minutes left on the self-serve timer when an intense thunderstorm blew into town, The Elba Clipper reported.
The Jan. 26 story stated that, even with the storm, Ashton Davis thought it would still be safe to finish washing his truck.
Next, all Davis can remember is a loud pop, a ball of fire and being thrown against the wall of the carwash. After the lightning strike, he managed to crawl back to his truck and dial 911.
Davis was taken to the hospital, and he initially had limited mobility and no feeling in his left arm and leg. The next day some feeling had returned, but his limbs were still weak, according to the story.
The only visible sign of the lightning strike was a slight burn on his thumb, the story noted.
