Last year, more attendees than expected showed for the 20th annual Northeast Regional Carwash Convention (NRCC) held at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. This year, the 21st annual show is moving to a larger space (the Trump Taj Majal) and featuring a keynote address from two heroes of September 11.
Professional Carwashing & Detailing sat down with Dave Dugoff, chairman of the NRCC, who discussed what attendees can expect this October 18-20 when the show, under the theme of “Soaring Again,” opens in Atlantic City, He also revealed and just what sort of educational opportunities are out there for operators who want to learn from their past and build on their successes.
Professional Carwashing & Detailing: It’s hard to believe the 2010 NRCC is right around the corner. What can attendees expect at this year’s show?
Dugoff: We are very excited about the changes that we have made for the 2010 NRCC show. We have moved to the Taj Mahal, which has almost doubled our square footage. With this move attendees can expect to see the largest regional trade show floor in the country!
This new floor plan will also allow exhibitors to bring in larger displays as well, giving our attendees the ultimate trade show experience.
PC&D: How will things be different from last year’s show?
Dugoff: Along with the new venue the NRCC has secured an ultra-exclusive location for our opening night reception. The reception will be held in the Taj Mahal’s high roller suite located on the 49th floor of the Taj Tower.
This two-story suite over looks the beautiful Atlantic City skyline; complimented by decadent food and drinks, along with live entertainment, the evening promises to be a night to remember.
PC&D: How has the state of the economy weighed in with this year’s show?
Dugoff: The economy always effects the planning of the show and was a contributing factor in our decision to move to the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal offers room rates as low as $95 as well as a wide variety of reasonably priced food options.
We have also added to our programming significantly without increasing our pricing. This year the NRCC will be offering the Ritz Carlton Program, Legendary Service at the Ritz Carlton on Monday, October 18.
We are always conscious of the economy in any decision we make. We are hopeful that we have developed programming that carwash owners and operators will be able to benefit from at the most reasonable price possible.
PC&D: Did attendees play a role in what will be discussed at this year’s show?
Dugoff: Every year we review comments and suggestions that we receive and rebuild our programming to cater to the current needs of our attendees. In choosing our seminars we examine the current needs of the carwashing industry and focus around evolving needs of the carwash owners.
PC&D: The theme of this year’s show is “Soaring Again.” Please elaborate on how that theme came about.
Dugoff: Our “Soaring Again” theme represents the industries rising once again. We have learned from the past and made changes to our businesses that will make us even stronger than before. That is why it is so important to attend the NRCC show, the sharing of ideas and information coupled with the innovation on the show floor make this show an invaluable part of my business.
PC&D: Please tell us a bit about the keynote speakers.
Dugoff: Our keynote speakers are Joseph Hudak, a Fire Department City of New York Paramedic Instructor, and Captain Scott Shields, of Bear Search and Rescue, who will be accompanied by Theodorable, a search and rescue dog. They are both heroes of September 11th and Hurricane Katrina. They are both responsible for many of the rescues at the World Trade Center and Hurricane Katrina.
PC&D: Why were they chosen to be the speakers?
Dugoff: They were chosen to be our keynote speakers because they tie into our theme “Soaring Again” perfectly. Both Joseph and Scott will discuss their stories of triumph and sorrow as they demonstrate the powers of team work and leadership. Their riveting stories will both captivate and inspire us all.
