West Springfield, MA
A new carwash has received temporary permission to open, despite concerns of the planning board that approved it.
The planning board approved construction of a two-bay carwash in May, but set specific conditions such as access and buffers — some of which were carried out, some of which remain to be done.
The planning board requested the building department hold off on an occupancy permit until the issues were settled, but Building Commissioner Patrick J. Moore has issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for the site.
The owners of the carwash may either put in the site improvements or they can come back before the board to request a change of plans, which will kick off a whole new round of public hearings.
The Kamberg family’s new carwash will feature five self-serve wash bays and two automatic wash systems.
The wash systems will allow customers the option of a high pressure touchless wash or friction wash, which uses soft cloth to wrap around vehicles.
Designed to fit customer needs, the payment system will accept cash, credit cards, fleet cards and gift cards.
The Kamburgs are working with carwash development company Polynet Global Wash Systems to create a customized facility.
The grand opening is scheduled for late March.
