Despite the recent slow down in home sales and construction, a special exception request was approved for a new carwash and detailing business here.
Owner Katrina Hollings plans to operate the business from her home and assured MacClenny board members she would comply with code ordinances regarding loud noise nuisances and hours of service.
To alleviate possible problems with parking along the busy roadway Hollings plans to have scheduled appointment times for customers.
Rocky Mount, NC
Mike Bunn and Glen Bunn, owners of Rocky Mount Laundry & Dry Cleaners with six locations, are going to try their hand at carwashing.
A four-acre piece of property is being developed to include a 4,500-square-foot coin laundry, an eight-bay carwash, 250 mini-storage warehouses and 6,000 square feet of retail space for lease.
The Bunns operate their coin-laundry and dry cleaning business under the trade name Clean-Clean.
The total cost of the project is more than $3 million. The carwash is expected to be operational by April, and the coin laundry by June 1.
The self-storage facility will not be operational until 2009.
Site plans for a single in-bay automatic carwash were unanimously approved by the Unicoi Planning Commission during a special meeting.
The planning commission was concerned that trees along Unicoi Drive would be removed in order to make the carwash visible. The developer said only one or two trees will be removed and the carwash will not be visible from that street.
The carwash building will be constructed of cut face block painted beige with a red metal roof and two coin-operated vacuums will be located near the structure.
A member of the planning commission said another resident also plans to build a carwash in Unicoi, but it will be a self-serve site.
