Dear Editor,

Watching the stirring events of the Presidential inauguration this January, I wondered how many carwash operators were smart enough to benefit from the tremendous excitement and good will which was exhibited that day.

I wonder how many carwashes promoted Inauguration Day specials to the public. Or, was this just another day when carwashes lost a sale for lack of planning, effort, or imagination.

The inauguration events also caused me to wonder how our nation’s carwashes would fare if the new President were to stop by for a wash. Would the President be impressed with the cleanliness of your facilities? With the greeting and attentiveness of your team members? With the quality of your finished product?

On a somewhat related note, I noticed a family restaurant/chain celebrated a “National Pancake Day” in February. On the chosen day, customers from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. were served free pancakes at all their locations. Shouldn’t there be a “National Carwash Day” too? Perhaps the ICA, which at one time launched a “Car Love” promotional campaign, will step up again and help carwash owners and operators earn the support and good will of a reinvigorated nation.
