A carwash/drive-thru Dunkin Donuts/pet wash/gas station and c-store multi-profit center opened here in March. Gas N Wash was opened by Len McEnery whose family had owned the Gas City chain which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2010. Those gas stations have since been rebranded as Speedway.
McEnery said Mokena was a good place to start out and hopes to open more locations. Construction started last November and the gas station was opened four months later in February.
SOUTH TYNESIDE, NORTH AND WEAR, ENGLAND
Owner Pat Momat, 25, and manager Paul Crake, 47, have recently taken over the Formula 1 handwash here and have already secured 12 new jobs. The carwash got new equipment and a revamped valet bay, and they plan on expanding even more.
Crake said their plan is not just to make a more successful version of what it was, but to help it grow into something much better.
A new state-of-the-art carwash called Let 'Er Buck opened here in March.
Co-Owner Mark Law said that it is not your "ordinary" carwash and it also offers interior cleaning services. The wash also offers free vacuums.
NORTH HAVEN, CT
Mark Lightowler, owner of Buggy Glo Car Wash, knows a thing or two about messy pets. As the proud owner of a 150-pound Bernise Mountain dog, and a 140-pound Golden Retriever, he said washing them at home was proving to be an arduous and dirty task. So, to help him, as well as other pet owners, he decided to add on a pet wash to his carwash.
Lightowler's business, which is now called the Buggy Glo Car Wash and Barking Bath, gives pet and car owners the ultimate one stop shop.
Barking Bath offers up two wash rooms, a variety of soaps and conditioners, and water that is heated to 105 degrees. It also offers air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter. Baths last 10 minutes and cost $8.
MOUNT VERNON, OH
A new detail shop called Rick's Auto Detailing is now open for business here.
Owner Rick Flack had once been a detailer, but left the profession to take a hospital job. However, he recently decided to go back to detailing and went to work to open his own shop.
Rick's offers complete bumper-to-bumper cleanings and will detail anything from RVs and buses to trucks.
Michael and Gayle Gavin are now the owners of Tiny Bubbles Laundry and Car Wash.
The building was a former Laundromat, but had sat empty for almost four years. Michael said a lot of people are happy to see a business there again.
The couple took 11 months to renovate the building and add on the carwash, which will be open 24/7. The same couple also owns the Tiny Bubbles Car and Pet Wash in Scottdale, PA.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ
An environmentally-friendly wash here is helping car owners deal with spring pollen.
Major Car Wash utilizes environmentally-safe EZE Foam cleaners as well as biodegradable chemicals and biodegradable hydraulic oil. Major's also provides safer carwashing for the environment because all of its waste goes directly into the sewer system and travels through a water treatment facility.
There are three Major Car Wash locations and all are owned and operated by the Stanaway family.
All of the locations also give back to the community by holding numerous fundraisers for local groups, schools and charities. And on Memorial Day they gave away free washes to all veterans.
James Andrews decided to open a detail shop and small engine repair business after battling cancer and job layoffs. Andrews owned a business until he was struck by cancer. After recovering, he built up and sold one business; then was let go when one business closed and was laid off by another.
The Repair and Detail Shop clean cars inside and out and offers waxing and interior treatments. In addition, Andrews can perform minor car repairs, and he can work on small engines such as snow mobiles, mopeds and snow blowers.
CEDAR PARK, TX
Mister Car Wash has acquired a carwash in Cedar Park, TX, which now brings the chain's total to 80. The property transaction was completed on April 3, 2012. This means that Mister is now just four sites away from being the number one conveyor chain, in terms of locations, in the nation. Number one on the list is Wash Depot, a chain which has 84 locations across 13 different states.
Mister Car Wash CEO Ron Peterson stated in a press release, "We're excited to be adding another carwash in Cedar Park. This latest location fills a key retail trade area for us and we're extremely optimistic about its potential."
A new Cactus Car Wash location opened here bringing Cactus' total number of locations to five in the metro Atlanta area. Cactus, a chain of full-service washes, also has plans for two more locations scheduled to open in the fall.
Cactus Car Wash franchisee Bryan Waugh said their goal is to bring this high-quality service to Marietta and become an active part of this community.
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA
The new Palm Avenue Car Wash is unlike other carwashes out there, in that it offers up pizza and politics to customers.
Owner Mark Kravis also plans to install a video game at the windows to the tunnel that will allow people to "shoot" their cars as they go by.
The pizza shop uses dough that's made every day. The upstairs part of the business will serve as a local headquarters for the national Reform Party. Kravis is currently the treasurer of the California division.
A Chevron station here is expanding its offerings and will soon also have a carwash, restaurant and c-store.
The expansion will cost $3.5 million.
The carwash will be 800 square feet, and the restaurant and c-store will measure in at 5,500 square feet.
Owner Khosrow Haghshenas expects the added-on businesses will be open to customers by June 2012, which is right in the middle of tourist season.
