This year’s Most Valuable Carwasher (MVC) was chosen for a few key reasons. First off, according to the nomination form sent in by Yvan Lacroix of Répare-brise Inc. in Quebec, Canada, this man has an extreme “passion” for his work. “His clients,” wrote Lacroix, “range from some of the LA area's most fortuned people, to non-remunerated charity events for churches and nonprofit organizations. His passion for his art is unchallenged as is his skill level. Many product and chemical suppliers solicit his expertise to test products before they make it to the market and hold his opinion as gospel.” Next he is involved with various charities and does a lot of work with nonprofits. He also, according to Lacroix, has a great sense of humor and doesn’t mind being the brunt of the joke. A passion for his work, a passion for charity and a good sense of humor are some of the reasons José “Joe” Fernandez of Superior Shine in Covina, California, was chosen to be this year’s Most Valuable Carwasher.

Passion for his craft
In today’s world, finding someone who likes their job is always a nice thing. But, finding someone who is passionate about their job is even better. Lacroix said that José is not only a great detailer, but also a great person who is always at the forefront of his craft and has always been environmentally responsible, even before it was legislated or popular. According to Lacroix, he was also one of the first to embrace waterless washing. “José shows his passion and professionalism in everything he does. Weather he is detailing a Toyota Corolla for his daughters teacher, or a million dollar Bugatti, the passion and pride in his work is the same. He lives to shine!”

Going that extra mile
Charity work is something we continuously applaud and promote here at Professional Carwashing & Detailing. Fernandez seems to have that aspect of his life down pat. Lacroix said he does everything from charity for his daughters’ school to free plane detailing for pilots who give free plane rides to children who are dying. “Last month,” Lacroix said, “he elaborated an offer to his clients, giving them a $600 credit for sponsoring a child overseas. José served his country in the marines, and for years he has sent and continues to send care packages to those stationed abroad.”

Greatest strengths
Apparently, according to what Lacroix had to say, Fernandez might be a little shy about receiving the Most Valuable Carwasher award. “On a personal level José is a devout family man, church goer, and humble to a fault,” said Lacroix. “He has no problems being the brunt of a joke, and in his many conferences and training seminars keeps his audience in stitches with his ever present humor.” Lacroix also noted Fernandez’s perfection and his thirst to learn. “Over the years,” he said, “his reputation as one of our industry's luminaries has elevated him to the status of a superstar in the realm of detailing, but he remains modest and humble despite his overwhelming skill and experience.”
