ST. LOUIS, MO — The Waterway carwash chain said it will no longer wash Jeep Grand Cherokees due to the fact that they can suddenly accelerate, KUSA-TV reported.

The carwash company released the following statement: "Waterway has experienced an unacceptable number of dangerous and costly accidents involving pre 2011 Jeep Cherokees. At Waterway, employee and customer safety is our chief concern. Therefore we have made the decision to stop washing these vehicles."

The policy was enacted on March 1, 2013.

SUA and the carwash industry

A call made to Chrysler Group LLC was not returned.

Waterway made the recent PC&D Top 50 list with 19 locations in St. Louis, Kansas City, MO, Denver and Cleveland.

I specifically asked the St Louis manager why the decision was made regarding pre-2011 Jeeps - I asked, "Are we talking sudden acceleration?" He said "our concern is a safe environment for our employees" and did not answer my question at all. I have never had sudden acceleration in my '08 Grand Cherokee and didn't know there were any reports of that by others.

That's interesting. Were you able to go to another carwash nearby and if so, did they know that you could not have your car washed at Waterway?

I value my car as much as you should value your car. There is nothing wrong with Jeeps but if this carwash is having issues, that means its employees are reckless when handling vehicles and therefore I sure as heck would not take my vehicle to their establishment for a carwash.

For those who do not believer there is a problem please Google Jeep Sudden Acceleration or visit this website https://sites.google.com/site/jeepgrandcherokeesua/ with video clips of Jeeps being operated by the Jeep owner, not car wash employees, flying out of car washes.
