ROME, GA

A downtown corridor here will receive an update when a strip shopping center and self-serve carwash are torn down, Rome News-Tribune reported. The April 1 story stated that a new Goo Goo Express Wash is being developed for the space, and it will take up nearly all the real estate.

Owner Brian Dulaney noted in the story that the Goo Goo wash would be similar to the carwash facilities he owns in Memphis and Chattanooga. “It’s going to take up the rest of that block,” he said in the story. “We’ll be taking down Hana’s Bakery, AC Specialty Electronics, all that shopping center and the existing self service car wash." Dulaney and his partners have over two dozen Goo Goo locations in eight states including Georgia, Michigan and Texas. “It’ll be high-tech, ATM-type machine type things, all up to date, computerized,” Dulaney said in the article.

Mister is still the largest carwash chain in the United States and now has 109 carwash locations, and 32 express lubes throughout 13 states.

The company employs about 4,000 people and servcies more than 11 million cars a year.

Spiffy Car Wash is now open for business here and it includes automatic wash bays, and a pet washing station, the Melfort Journal reported.

The May 21 story said husband and wife team, Ron and Jocelyn Ferguson, have already seen a lot of repeat customers. “Once they have come here and seen it and tried it there has been a lot of repeat businesses,” Ron said in the story. “Just getting them through the door is a big thing, but everyone has been really happy with the quality of the wash.”

To prepare themselves, the Fergusons visited dozens of carwashes to see what they liked and wanted to include in theirs.

They couple are trying to keep the business as green as possible and installed automatic lights and a green ventilation system.

As for the pet wash, Ron said it's building momentum. “It is a novelty thing. We have already had over 30 dogs through in the dog wash,” he said in the story.

And soon they will be offering detail services. “You can have your vehicle back in half an hour we have a little coffee spot in there so you can have coffee and read the paper while you wait,” Jocelyn said in the story.

MT. PLEASANT, OH

A once profitable self-serve carwash here had been closed down for five years after the owners passed away, but it's now open once again for business with a new owner, according to a Times Leader report.

The May 19 story said Steve Schubert purchased the wash, now called Schubert's Car Wash, last December.

Since December, Schubert has replaced or updated the equipment, installed new LED lighting and added new vending machines.

There are three bays in total and one is capable of washing large trucks. An automatic bay might be added eventually.

"I am going to make sure to keep this facility cleaned and properly maintained," Schubert said in the story. "People aren't going to want to come wash their vehicles and have to step through mud."

COPLEY, OH

A carwash was recently added on as an additional profit center at a Conrad's Tire Service Inc. here in early April, a TireBusiness.com story reported.

The April 29 story said the carwash was added on at the 34 Conrad's location. The carwash has a 24-hour automatic LaserWash bay and a self-serve vacuum island.

Pat Tumino, the fixed assets manager for Conrad's, said this is the only location that will have a carwash due to space restrictions or too much competition at other locations.

“This is something we wanted to do for years," Tumino said in the story. "And in Copley it all made sense in that it was a big enough property, there was not any carwashes in the general vicinity, and it seemed to be one that made sense for us....Primarily it's to provide a service for our customers. They can come in, get their car done and maybe they're done with their oil change, they can get their car washed.

ST. AUSTELL, ENGLAND

A new carwash opened earlier in May and is located on the ground level of White River Place Shopping Centre and operated by 2G services Ltd., according to dca-pr.co.uk.

The carwash operated as a drop off and collect service where customers can leave their cars parked, go shopping and return to a clean vehicle.

White River Place Centre manager said in the story, “The new carwash is absolutely fantastic — you would never believe that you could get such a perfectly clean, glistening finishing using just half a liter of water but it really does work. The reaction we’ve had from shoppers so far has been fantastic – you really do need to try it for yourself to see just how efficient our eco-friendly system is.”
