Darrin Baum to lead new vehicle care division of Zep Inc.

EAGAN, MN — Darrin Baum has been promoted to vice president, general manager of the newly created vehicle care division of Zep Inc., a press release reported.

The Dec. 3 press release stated that Baum joined Zep back in 2012 when it acquired Ecolab's Vehicle Care division. Prior to that he served as territory manager, district manager, western area vice president, vice president of corporate accounts and the vice president of sales and service at Ecolab. He also worked at and managed carwashes and has been a board member of Western Car Wash Association since 2002.

“Darrin’s extensive knowledge of our industry and his passion for our team, together with his business acumen and dynamic leadership skills, uniquely qualify him to lead Zep Vehicle Care into the future,” StevDarrin Baume Nichols, group president of Zep Inc., stated in the press release.

The new Vehicle Care group currently employs 150 people and has 90 distributors.

“I am thrilled about the opportunity to lead Zep Vehicle Care during this very exciting time in our business development,” Baum stated in the press release. “Zep Inc. has demonstrated a commitment to the car wash industry and to our business. As we complete our integration of the separate businesses over the next several months, we have a unique opportunity and aggressive plan for growth and continued industry leadership.”

PDQ names new vice president of sales

DE PERE, WI — PDQ Manufacturing, Inc. has named Tony Smith as the vice president of sales for the company's Auto Dealer Sector, according to a press release.tony smith

The Nov. 15 press release stated that Smith will be responsible "for growing sales efforts in the automotive dealer market," and he will report to Senior Vice President of Sales Gerry Hanrahan.

Smith, who has almost 20 years of experience in account development, sales management, marketing, and customer relationship, was responsible for the development of sales and marketing strategies for dealership equipment for Snap-on Equipment.

“I am very excited to add Tony to the PDQ team. With his comprehensive knowledge of the auto dealer sector, Tony will complement our already strong sales team,” Hanrahan stated in the press release. “This will help strengthen our efforts to maximize sales in the automotive industry.”

Blue-White names new CEO

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — The Board of Directors and stockholders for Blue-White Industries has named Robin Gledhill as its new president and CEO, a press release announced.

The press release stated that Gledhill has been with Blue-White for over 40 years and began when he was in college.

Gledhill started out in the metering pump division, and eventually became Blue-White's international sales manager. In 1997, he was elected as the company's president.

The press release stated that Gledhill was chosen for his product knowledge, interest in product development and improvement, and his respect for all customers and employees.

Steve Gaudreau & Associates, LLC is now Brink Results, LLC

FORT MYERS, FL — Steve Gaudreau announced in a press release that Steve Gaudreau & Associates, LLC will now go by the name: Brink Results, LLC.

The Nov. 5 press release quoted Matt Hord, director of marketing, who stated, “We changed our name to more effectively reflect our relationship with our clients. People call us when they are on the brink of some change: Problems within an organization that need solving, opportunities that can be exploited, or an acquisition that needs to be accomplished. They usually need to move quickly before the 'brink' of change propels them in a direction for which they are unprepared to handle effectively."

The company started out in 2005 and Gaudreau and Jacquelyn Bridge, the principals of Brink Results, have been in business together since 1992.

Transchem Pro adds two new distributors to its network

Transchem Pro (Turtle Wax Professional) has added Old Dominion Car Wash Services and M Chemicals to its distributor network, a press release reported.

The Nov. 19 press release stated that Old Dominion, which is based in Richmond, VA, specializes in carwash site development, construction, operations, chemistry, and service. Founded by Jamie Nester and Bob Schrum of Flagstop Car Wash, Old Dominion covers southern Maryland, Virginia, and eastern North Carolina territories. 

M Chemicals is the "preferred distributor for Turtle Wax Professional products in the Tennessee marketplace," according to the press release, and was founded by Miles Johnson and Rocky Crossland in 2013. Johnson and Crossland have also been operating and branding their MILES Auto Spa in Franklin, TN, for the past seven years. Mark Duncan will serve as vice president of sales for M Chemicals.

Ryko Solutions donates $14K to food bank

GRIMES, IA — Ryko Solutions, Inc., on behalf of its employees, recently donated $14,000 to the Food Bank of Iowa and its Combat Hunger Food Drive, according to a press release.

The Nov. 25 release stated that employees also donated food throughout the month of November

to give to the food bank. 

The Food Bank of Iowa serves 285 agencies throughout Iowa

Australian Car Wash Association names new president

TASMANIA, AUSTRALIA — Darren Brown has been named as the new president of the Australian Car Wash Association (ACWA), according to a press release.

The November press release stated that Brown has been involved in the carwashing industry since 2007 and has been a board member of the ACWA since 2009.

Brown started out in the hospitality industry and got involved in the carwashing industry when a hotel he was running opened up a carwash on an accompanying plot of land.

In the press release, Brown stated that he looks forward to learning more about the industry.

CWONJ hosts Fall Membership Meeting

CLARK, NJ — The Car Wash Operators of New Jersey's (CWONJ) Fall Membership Meeting was held here at the Holiday Inn on November 12, a press release reported.

The Nov. 13 press release stated that International Carwash Association® President Mark Curtis gave the keynote address. Curtis, CEO of the Splash Car Wash chain, spoke of his successes and failures in the carwashing industry.

Incoming CWONJ President Mike Conte headed the membership meeting, which also included a cocktail reception and dinner.

The next membership meeting will be on Feb. 4 at the same Holiday Inn.

Window Film Conference and Tint-Off™ being held next year in Baltimore

The International Window Film Conference and Tint-Off™ (WFCT) will take place on Oct. 7-9, 2014, at the Baltimore Convention Center and Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards in Baltimore, MD, according to a Window Film Magazine™ announcement.

The Nov. 7 announcement stated that the event brings together people from the automotive, architectural, decorative, security, and paint protection industries. Auto Glass Week™ will also take place there at the same time.

“I anticipate that 2014 will be our best event yet,” Holly Biller, director of sales for WFCT, stated in the announcement. “Those who joined us in Tampa had a great experience and we took their input and built out the event even more for Baltimore. For instance, we will be adding in a new paint protection competition division for our installers which will add to the excitement levels on the Exhibition/Extravaganza floor.”

Biller said she encourages attendees to save the dates now.

The event, which first took place about 15 years ago, is sponsored by Window Film Magazine™.
