TAMARAC, Fla. — The 2014 Car Wash Case Studies DVD “takes viewers on a behind the scenes look at some of the most successful carwashes in the country,” according to a press release.
The DVD is now in its 11th year, and offers a unique perspective into how industry experts have been able to handle challenges and improve sales in the carwash business.
The three locations for this year’s DVD have never been filmed before. One of the washes was struggling greatly, and then raised its volume by over 100,000 cars in the first year of new ownership.
“Providing operators the ability to see real life examples of what others are doing in the carwash industry helps spark new ideas to move our industry forward as a whole,” said Paul Fazio, CEO of Sonny’s Enterprises, Inc.
TAMARAC, Fla. — In other Sonny’s news, a retirement in the Sonny’s family has led to the Auto Accessories division being taken over by Superior Auto Extras, according to a press release.
“When my sister Barbara came to me and explained her two-year plan to move to North Carolina and retire that seemed like a long time in the future” said Paul Fazio, CEO of Sonny’s Car Wash Factory. “With her departure, we decided our clients that buy auto accessories would best be served by a company in our industry that specializes in this market.”
Fazio said he’s “gotten to know” the people at Superior Auto Extras over the years, and feels comfortable with them acquiring the business.
“We are very excited and look forward to servicing the Sonny’s Auto Accessories division customers,” said Superior Auto Extras President Gene Student. “Superior will continue to offer the same Sonny’s programs with a much expanded product offering of profit builders for their carwash lobby and showrooms.”
ST. LOUIS — Elliot Herndon is the new business development manager for D&S, according to a press release.
The job will make him responsible for “building market share for D&S by locating and developing new carwash equipment business in the Western region of the U.S.,” according to the release.
Herndon previously worked for Washing Equipment of Texas (WET) where he helped the company expand through Texas. He has spent more than 27 years in the manufacturing, equipment and chemical sales business.
DE PERE, Wis. — Troy Wayman has many years of experience in the carwash business and related fields, and now Lustra has hired him as the regional sales manager for the Central U.S. position, according to a press release.
“We are very excited to have Troy join our team,” said John Antonis, vice president of sales — CSI. “His past experiences in the carwash industry, convenience stores and distribution field, have prepared him to be a very important addition to the Lustra sales team.
Wayman said he is excited to join the company. “I am eager to make a positive contribution to the Lustra division and work with the Lustra team,” the press release stated.
BRISTOL, Va. — Istobal USA is excited to have Steve Osborn as its new south east regional sales manager, according to a press release.
CEO of Istobal USA, Jimmy Sisk, said that Steve “possesses great skills and wide knowledge of the industry and we’re sure his contributions will bring tremendous growth and success to our company.”
Osborn has spent many years in the carwash business, with time working in product development, sales management and more.
“Steve’s background and experience in the carwash industry make him a tremendous asset to our organization,” said Mike O’Donnell, national sales manager for Istobal USA, in the release.
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Southwest Car Wash Association (SCWA) show was a “really great way to start out the year,” Charlie Gates of Octopus Car Wash stated in a press release.
SCWA President Clayton Clark said the EXPO focused around “changing the game in carwashing, lube and detailing.” Clark added that this year was the “largest attended” SCWA EXPO, and said the event continues to raise the bar higher each year.
There were over 1,400 carwash owners and exhibitors in attendance. The CEO of Mister Car Wash, John Lai, spoke about how wash owners can use the “dynamics of change to be more competitive,” according to the release.
The event also included the “Annual Awards” presentation. The 2014 Self-Service/Automatic Car Wash of the Year award went to Splish Splash Auto Bath.
The 2015 SCWA Convention & EXPO will take place Feb. 22-24 in Arlington, Texas.
CLARK, N.J. — The CWONJ had three presenters at their winter meeting, ranging on discussions from PCI compliance to the introduction of new member benefits to financial strategies, according to a press release.
According to the statement, “the event’s keynote, How to Secure Your Financial Future, hit very close to home.” The speaker, Lou Rendemonti, of Wealth Strategies grew up washing cars in New Jersey.
He spoke on the lessons that he learned throughout his years working at the family carwash. Because of his unique perspective, he was able to connect with the audience about their specific needs, the release noted.
The CWONJ met again to tour washes in the Philadelphia area on April 22.
