DES MOINES, Iowa — When the farm economy began to go down, the Brelsford family invested in a new business, carwashing, in 2009, according to The Des Moines Register.

“There’s so much potential for the business to continue to grow as the community continues to grow,” said Brodie Brelsford, the general manager of the family owned Grimes Laser Wash.

The wash has both IBAs and self-serve carwash options; one of the bays is bigger, notes the article, which allows for the cleaning of RVs, campers and large trailers.

There are many reasons, Brelsford said, why the self-serve bays are popular. “We take credit cards in the self-serve bays, which people love,” he said. “It’s the preferred payment method today. Nobody wants to scramble for quarters. Also, all of our self-serve bays have doors on both sides, and when you put them down in colder weather, the bays are heated.”

Laser has part-time attendants to help with the cleaning up of trash and ensuring everything is working smoothly. “We pride ourselves in having a clean facility, because there’s nothing worse than dirty bays when you want to wash your vehicle," he said.
