EDINA, MN — The past two days have been busy for the boycott of the Edina Car Wash and other Murphy Automotive businesses here, lezgetreal.com reported.
The Aug. 31 story stated that Facebook deleted the boycott page after someone complained about the content. PC&D reported on the Edina Car Wash Facebook boycott earlier this week.
Isaac Rothberg, one of the leaders of the campaign, said the page deletion was a big blow to the boycott. “Despite this obstacle to our local campaign, which was rapidly gaining support and had our page up to over 500 fans, we are attempting to continue the online campaign through a Facebook group instead,” Rothbert said in the story.
Once the new Facebook group was formed, Gabe Aderhold posted a message announcing that the boycott had officially ended. Carwash owner Tim Murphy released a message on the Facebook page saying that the You Can Run But You Cannot Hide organization would no longer be allowed to use the carwash facility.
“Thanks for everyone who has taken the time to participate and inform others of our boycott,” Aderhold said in the message. “Our boycott goes to show that social networking and grassroots organizing really does work, and I encourage anyone who sees social, economic, environmental, animal or human injustices to engage with your local community and network online much like we did during this boycott.”
