Build your web presence through blogging

Blogs are still one of the best ways to build a web presence fast. They’re also an excellent way to position you as a leading authority in your own industry. Recently I read an interesting article about a Dallas boat dealership that had used a simple blog to sky rocket their rankings on Google.

How they did it

Instead of creating a series of blog posts with pictures of the different boat models they offer, they posted pictures of smiling customers standing right next to the new boat they had just purchased. Some of the pictures included a paragraph or two of the customer’s story.

Within these paragraphs are long tail keywords (more specific keywords) that most people would be using if they were searching Google for new and used boats in the Dallas area. Not only are they getting themselves ranked high on Google but they’re also creating a high level of trust among their website visitors with the pictures and stories of satisfied buyers.

This same strategy is one that you as a professional car detailer could benefit from right away. It takes no money and very little time to create a blog site for your business. You can get started easily with free blogs like or

These are the two most popular blog formats. Once you create your name and chose your layout, you’re ready to start posting content. You might be thinking in your mind, “I already have a website. Why do I need a blog?” The reason is that Google and other search engines tend to rank them higher since they get updated more frequently than static websites that often remain unchanged.

Google keywords

If you’re consistently updating a blog with customer testimonials and using key words within those posts, then you’re likely to eventually end up at the top of the search list for car detailers in your area. To find what key words are best to use for “car detailing”, use the Google keyword tool. Google will provide you with a list of words or phrases that people are searching for each month. I did a simple keyword search for “car detailers in” and came up with a huge list of searches for car detailers in cities all over the country.

If you want to make it even easier for getting feedback from your satisfied customers, then use video. I recently purchased a new Flip Mino HD pocket camcorder for getting more video for my blog. It’s small and lightweight for getting video on the go. This makes it perfect for shooting a video of some of your most recent detailing jobs as well as getting a comment or two from your best clients.

Uploading video to YouTube is as easy as plugging the Flip directly into the USB port on your computer and making a few clicks. You can then take those videos and then embed them into the posts on your blog site. You could then add some short comments that are key word specific and you’ll start to see your search engine ranking climb. Even if you aren’t interested in creating a stronger online presence, having an interesting blog with car care tips and testimonials that you can refer prospects and past customers to is always a great way to improve your brand awareness locally.
