Car-care pros say carwashes are ‘greenest’ option

TORONTO — Car-care professionals here said that automatic carwashes are the “greenest” way for owners to wash their cars, MSN Autos reported.

The May 15 article said studies show that a cleaning in a carwash uses roughly half the water that an average owner would use while washing at home.

Also, commercial carwash systems are required, by law, to contain and collect the water used during the wash, as are professional detailers. The story said the waste water is then cleaned and, in most cases, used again.

“The best approach is to run your vehicle through a carwash regularly to keep the dirt from building up and digging into the surface,” David Lee, owner and operator of L.A. Detail, said in the story.

Lee recommended high-pressure, no-contact systems. He said in the story that these systems are also useful in performing the most difficult of car-cleaning tasks: cleaning dirt and salt from a vehicle’s undercarriage, fender liners and rocker panels.

For really dirty jobs, though, the best and most effective way to wash a vehicle is hand washing, the story said. This is how pro detailers wash cars, and it’s the only way some dirt and residue can be removed.

This "Car Care Pro" contradicts himself in this story and perpetuates false inforamtion about car washing. Nice.
