QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA — The Queensland Supreme Court here appointed a liquidator for the Carlovers Carwash group after the carwash chain fell into liquidation and receivership, The Australian reported.
The April 19 article said Carlovers Carwash’s majority shareholder, the Malaysian-controlled Berjaya Group, called in Ken Whittingham and Atle Crowe-Maxwell of PKF Chartered Accountants as receiver and manager.
There is still some doubt raised about the Berjaya Group’s right to appoint the receiver, the story said.
Many have drawn a clear connection between the four-year administration of the company and yesterday’s formal close-down, but no one was prepared to comment while a question remained as to the legality of the liquidator’s appointment, according to the story.
PC&D previously reported on the administrator of Carlovers Carwash, Stuart Ariff, who was accused of using Carlovers’ funds for personal travel and extravagances.
