GLENVIEW, IL — A car dealership owner here says a proposed Mr. Clean Car Wash would have been a ‘disaster’ for the area and for neighbors, Glenview Announcements reported.
The April 19 story said Mr. Clean formally withdrew its application for a site next to Bredemann Ford and Lexus on April 4. The dealership bought the property on March 31 for $1.7 million, and they now plan to use the land for “typical dealership operations.”
“We would have been just as happy if somebody had bought it and redeveloped it in a way that was compatible for the neighborhood,” Joe Bredemann, the owner of the dealership, said in the story. “A carwash would have been a disaster for this end of Waukegan Road, and for the neighbors.”
Bredemann was one of the site’s neighbors that turned up to complain when Mr. Clean’s plans were submitted last fall, according to the story. The site’s neighbors said that the proposed carwash would exacerbate traffic problems and send pollutants into a lake in the area.
The debate about the planned carwash extended for months. PC&D reported on the public hearing where residents and businesses spoke out against the plans. We also reported when Mr. Clean initially withdrew plans for the carwash.
