PENN HILLS, PA — An inventive robber used a shop-vac and tools to clean out six coin boxes at a carwash here, WPXI reported.
The Jan. 12 story stated that John Murphy broke into the machines inside the bay, and he used a shop-vac to remove the quarters.
Investigators said in the story that Murphy stole about $250 in quarters from the Bubble Blast Car Wash.
A police officer spotted Murphy at the carwash and arrested him. He faces burglary, theft and criminal mischief charges, according to the story.
“It was good work by my police officer,” Howard Burton, Penn Hills police chief, said in the story. “He was driving down Rodi Road on routine patrol at about 3:30 in the morning and thought it was very suspicious that there would be a vehicle pulled into a carwash when it was raining outside.”
