LATHAM, NY — The results are in for the Professional Carwashing & Detailing 2012 Self-Serve Industry Benchmark Report, and some findings might be a bit shocking to a few of you.

For example:

  • 49% of those surveyed said they are located in a suburban area;
  • 42% of those surveyed said they do accept tokens; and
  • 9% said they offer self storage units as an additional profit center.

The annual survey is made possible by the owner/operators who took the time to answer the online survey which was emailed to them during the month of November. The final analysis is not a scientific study and was conducted using Zoomerang survey software.

If you’re interested in seeing the entire survey, please contact Associate Publisher Sandy Murphy at smurphy@carwash.com or call 518-640-9169. Please note, the survey is free to all paid subscribers.

I think it is terrific when the wash property can have diverse services or another business that possibly piggy-backs on the car wash. Our first car wash had storage units on the property. Our current wash has an attached takeout ice cream store. The seasons for being busy are opposite of each other, so it keeps everything busy year around. I would encourage someone shopping for a location to consider thinking about it serving more than a car wash if possible.
