CEDAR RAPIDS, IA — An adult and three children were trapped inside an SUV after the vehicle hit a power transformer then drove through a carwash wall here, Eastern Iowa News Now reported.

The March 5 story said John Thomas, 30, first drove his SUV into a three-phase power transformer and knocked it off its base before driving into the side wall of a carwash.

After the collision, Thomas and the three children had to sit and wait for power crews to turn off the electricity before they could exit the vehicle. A fire department spokesman said that the passengers would have been energized by the transformer if they had stepped out.

The fire department thinks the collision was related to a medical condition, and Thomas was transported for his injuries. The three children were taken by a family member.
