Morrisburg, Ontario, Canada

The Morrisburg Car Wash opened here on Nov. 12, and it features a $3 four-minute wash, three bays, vacuums and a vending area. The carwash is owned by married couple Fred and Mattie Zandbergen, and it was a business venture they had been considering for years after Fred sold his previous business, Fred's Farm Supplies.

The couple has brought on Phil Johnson as the site manager. He previously worked for the Hosers Car Care chain. Fred's brother, Richard, will also serve as the carwash's manager.

Racine, WI

A vacant, city-owned lot will soon be the home of a $1 million carwash/Subway restaurant/gas station and c-store multi-profit center. The city was presented with two proposals for the lot, but went with Akil Ajmeri's — who already owns several businesses in the area — as he has a firm bank financing commitment with no contingencies, according to City Development Director Brian O'Connell.

Under the proposal, Ajmeri will pay $1,000 for six months and would then buy the land for another $10,000. Ajmeri said he would like to get to work this spring and have the business open in August 2012.

Blackduck, MN

A new family-owned collision and detailing center here is finally bringing damage repair services to the city. Danny Juelson and his wife, Jessica, were searching for the perfect place to open their business, Blackduck Collision. Juelson worked at another body shop for 16 years, and he received advice from the owners there when it came to finding the right location.

The couple chose Blackduck because they graduated from high school in the city and they wanted to become a bigger part of the community where they grew up.

The shop offers collision repair, glass work, restoration and detailing, and the building has two bays, a paint mixing room and a paint room.

Farragut, TN

A carwash opening here next spring will include technology unseen in the U.S. Jim Rooney, owner of 3 Minute Magic Carwash, wants to import a pioneering automated polishing technology he researched in Europe.

After renovations that will remove gas pumps and a convenience store, the building will be remodeled to accommodate two side-by-side tunnels, one of which will be an automated polishing tunnel. Once the wash is renovated, customers will go through the carwash then stop at a vacuum station. When leaving the vacuum bays, customers can either exit the property or enter the polishing tunnel.

Derry, PA

A Sheetz c-store is going up here and will include a carwash. The site, which is under construction, recently received approval from the township Board of Supervisors to add on the 2.7-acre carwash.

The single-bay, freestanding carwash will also include a vacuum station and will be located at the back of the c-store.

Lima, Peru

This city now hosts its first-ever waterless carwash in an effort to curb water usage and to become one of the greener cities in the desert.

Biowash, launched by the Italian charity Cesvi along with the Inter-American Development Bank as a youth employment initiative, doesn't use a single drop of water. Carwashers use a spray that "emulsifies the grime."

Hotchkiss, CO

Lawrence Hill has been given the go ahead to open up a mobile hot dog stand at a carwash here. Hill's food cart will also offer up sandwiches and "to go" food. He had to obtain a special-use permit and gain permission from the Hotchkiss Town Council.

Carwash owner David Keegan was all for it and Mayor Wendell Koontz said Hill was doing everything right to get his business established at the carwash.

Godfrey, IL

On the Spot Car Wash has opened here, and owner Alvin Jones said it's been a positive experience so far.

The 5,600-square-foot business, located across from the Lewis and Clark Community College, offers complete details as well. Jones said, "We offer $12 carwashes and $16 truck washes. We shampoo inside and we take care of bumper to bumper. We are a one-stop-shop detail center."

La Quinta, CA

A new state-of-the-art automated carwash here offers a clean car in six minutes or less.

The owner of the Desert Express Car Wash, Yury Levitan, owns two other carwashes, and he previously owned a body shop. "I opened my first carwash in Palm Desert, Hand Car Wash, in 2004 just about a mile from here," Levitan said. "I built one similar to this new one in Fresno about three and a half years ago."

The software and machinery in the wash are the latest and most sophisticated available. Services include triple foam rainbow polish, wheel cleaner and spot-free rinse. Drivers leaving the tunnel can choose to exit the property or turn into bays equipped with vacuums and vending.
