Bowling Green, KY
After a layoff for one and a long job search for the other, two men have started their own mobile carwashing and detailing business here called Southern Shine.
Jordan Gibbs and Paul Solomon decided to go into business for themselves because of the lack of opportunity offered by the slow job market. Solomon said that he worked as a general manager at a carwash. He learned a lot from the carwash, and the knowledge has helped the new business.
“We’d like to expand, right now it’s just me and my partner, and we would like to have our own crews,” Gibbs said.
University Place, WA
Diamond Detail is the newest detail shop in University Place, and it is the type of small business that may help the area’s economy recover.
Diamond Detail’s owner, Darren Horner, said that he opened the shop because he saw a need in the area. He invested $5,000 to launch the business, and he hopes to turn a profit by the end of the summer. Horner said one of the reasons his new business is surviving is because of his dedication to customer service. Word-of-mouth has also been a key to the shop’s early success.
“People like the quality of work here. They tell their friends,” he said. “It seems like people in University Place seem to like to use the businesses in their own city.”
Bonney Lake, WA
The new Fife RV Auto Center opened here on March 15 includes a detailing shop that welcomes all RVs and automobiles. It will also offer service, parts and repair — structural and mechanical — for RVs.
Fife RV has been in business for 12 years, and the new Bonney Lake location was opened due to demand in the area for RV services. Many customers didn’t want to drive so far for repair, parts and service.
“We will continue to provide the same quality service we always have,” Store Manager Joe Palomarez said. “This is a full-service RV center.”
A state-of-the-art detailing center was recently opened here by Groupo Commercial Mexicano called Tequendama Autolavados.
The opening ceremony featured a ribbon cutting by Juan de Rada, general manager of 3D International LLC as the shop will use 3D detailing supplies.
A carwash reopened here after nine years, and the owner said the new business venture is a dream come true. Owner Tom McNulty reopened the carwash on Route 61 on March 3.
Despite the rough economy, McNulty invested heavily in remodeling the building and in installing new equipment. The carwash doors alone cost $30,000 each. But, McNulty said it was worth the risk. McNulty also bought the property next door to the carwash. He hopes to sell the property and have another business next to the carwash.
An eco-friendly carwash called Eco Car Care that uses no water has opened for business here. The carwash uses a non-toxic cleaning solution to lift dirt. The dirt and solution are then wiped away by microfiber towels for a shiny, clean finish.
“Ordinary carwashes use an amazing 200 liters of water for every car, which is an incredible waste,” Ben Hogbin, the director of Eco Car Care said. “We recognize that businesses need to take responsibility for their waste and ‘go green’ as soon as possible.”
A new eco-friendly carwash has opened here and owner Mario Vella said it’s a dream come true since the age of 17. The carwash, which includes one automatic and five self-serve bays, officially opened on Feb. 18.
The carwash was remodeled and refurbished by Vella and uses 70 percent less water than it did under its previous owners.
The business has also made room for a detail shop that will be rented out. Vella said he plans to offer senior discounts and “classic car” night specials.
Brooklyn Park, MN
Mister Car Wash, the second largest conveyor carwash chain in the nation, has now acquired an express carwash here; marking its 13th location in the Twin Cities area and the company’s 66th carwash nationwide.
“Increasing our presence in a market the size of the Twin Cities aligns with our growth strategy. This location is ideal because it is close to popular retail areas and is the only carwash servicing southern Brooklyn Park,” said John Lai, Chief Operating Officer of Mister Car Wash.
The carwash offers exterior carwash services. New tunnel equipment and free vacuums, along with building modifications and signage enhancements were also implemented.
