Scott Community College student Brandon Bequeath, 20, has taken a class assignment, which was to develop a business plan, and turned it into a full-fledged actual business, Quad-City Mobile Detail.

With prices starting at $135, Bequeath does everything from buffing and shampooing, to vacuuming and waxing. Using his mobile trailer, he also details trucks, SUVs and boats.

Bequeath worked for three years as a detailer at two different car dealerships before working on his business plan and opening his mobile detailing services.

One-time Magic Touch Car Wash customer Johnny Johnson loved his clean car so much he decided to open up his own Magic Touch location.

The wash, which offers the 3-minute wash, is expected to open this month.

Johnson said he carefully researched all of the various locations before choosing Tyler, TX. “We don't have that concept in Tyler. It seems like Tyler is the best location I could come up with for this idea. There's a lot of traffic there on the loop,” he explained.

The eco-friendly Greenhouse Carwash opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 17. The wash is powered by 35 solar panels which were purchased through a $24,000 state grant and a 30 percent federal tax credit.

Only biodegradable soaps and waxes will be used and it will also reuse up to 90 percent of its water.

The wash was designed by Channel Sun Inc., a MA-based company that designs and installs solar-panel-based businesses.

Rehoboth Beach, VA
Mark Quigley, owner of the city’s newest eco-friendly mobile washing business, Go Green Mobile Clean, said he can wash a car or SUV using less than a half gallon of water.

"I've washed and waxed a 24-foot motor home with half a gallon of water. The owner couldn't believe it,” Quigley said.

Quigley has been in the carwashing business for 20 years, but recently opened the greener business after seeing how much water was wasted through at-home washing. Go Green uses products that are 100 percent eco-, human- and pet-friendly.

Two Rivers, WI
The grand opening of Ummy’s Ultra Car Wash benefitted a local 24-year-old who is dying from leukemia.

The carwash sold its “platinum” carwash, valued at $11, for $5 and gave the proceeds to Eric McLean’s “bucket list.” McLean’s list contains things he would like to do before he passes away from leukemia.

The grand opening took place July 2 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. The wash offered different kinds of sales and specials and raffled tickets to the Milwaukee County Zoo, the Bristol Renaissance Faire and Wisconsin Dells games, as well as prizes and gift certificates.
