I know, I know, people keep saying it, and I'm about to as well: I cannot believe it is already November. It feels like just yesterday I was celebrating the 4th of July; and, now we have another patriotic holiday worth celebrating: Veterans Day. The federal holiday, which will be celebrated on Sunday, November 11, is near and dear to my heart as my grandfather and grandmother both served during World War II. My grandfather, a doctor, was a captain serving the medical ship the USS Miguel. He met my grandmother, who was a nurse aboard the ship, somewhere near Casablanca. They were both brave people, who proudly served, but didn't often talk of their efforts. I feel that that is the case for many veterans: They are modest and subtle. And, now that we have veterans who served in WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Iran-Iraq War, both Gulf Wars, the Global War on Terror and many others, it seems as if there are more around than ever.
As a member of the carwashing industry, I am proud to promote and sing the praises of the Grace for Vets program (see story here). It's a glorious way to honor veterans by giving them a free carwash and thanking them for the time they gave to our country. Mike Mountz — CEO of Cloister Carwash & Lube and a U.S. service veteran who briefly participated in the Vietnam War — founded Grace for Vets in 2004 and since then has gotten all 50 states, and over 1,200 carwashes to participate. Are you on that list? If you're not and are interested, please visit www.graceforvets.org. It's a nice way for you to salute the men and women who fought for, protected and stood up for our freedom.
And now onto a completely other note, but one which also focuses on acts of grace and integrity, a carwash chain that recently appeared on our Top 50 list in the September issue has been called into question. Please note that we do not take any sorts of fabrications or mendacities lightly. If anyone out there has misrepresented themselves or in any way called into question our integrity as the number one carwashing magazine in the industry, I will do my part to right any wrong and call out any fraudulent claims. In the meantime, we have removed the list from our website and will re-post when we are certain of the numbers.
And with that, I bid you a glorious Thanksgiving and Autumn, and if you yourself are a veteran, thank you very much for all you have done for our wonderful nation.
