• PDQ Manufacturing Inc. has made a donation to the Twin Towers Orphan Fund (TTOF), a charity that supports the children who were affected by the terrorist attacks in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001.
Becky Davies, PDQ's Human Resources manager, stated, "In honor of the 10th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, we are very proud to be making a donation to the Twin Towers Orphan Fund on behalf of our employees."
The TTOF offers mental and physical healthcare to children and educational support to children who lost one or both parents on Sept. 11 in New York City.
PDQ also made a donation to the Service League of Green Bay's Back-To-School Store program. The program helps provide back-to-school items, such as backpacks, books and new clothes, to more than 1,500 students. PDQ was one of more than 500 benefactors who gave to the program this August.
Davies stated in the press release, "This worthwhile program not only lends a hand to those who are less fortunate, but also raises the level of enthusiasm for these children as they prepare to head back to school. This not only pays dividends today in the form of a more enthusiastic attitude about heading back to school, but will do so in future years when these children turn the positive feelings they received as a result of this program into a sense of care that will help sustain it as they enter their adult years."
In other PDQ news, July 4, 2011 marked an important milestone for PDQ Manufacturing Inc., in that it was the 1,000th consecutive accident- and injury-free day at its manufacturing facility. Operations Manager Scott Vander Heiden said in a press release, "We make sure we have a very clean, orderly work environment. We really work at getting the workplace in order and take things out of the work environment that aren't necessary. We also make sure we are standardized in how we have the plant laid out in terms of parts and tools, and make sure that everything is put back in its proper place."
• Meguiar's of Yonkers, NY, announced that two of their products have been named best buys by Consumer Reports. The company's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 and NU Finish NFP-80 topped Consumer Reports' latest tests of 19 car waxes.
Consumer Reports' testing found that pastes performed no better than liquids in head-to-head comparisons, with both wax types having similar scores for ease of use. The better liquids tended to improve gloss while the best pastes lasted longer.
Still, none of the 19 products tested were good enough to be rated excellent. Most showed signs of deterioration within a few weeks.
• Car Wash Equipment and Supplies (CWE&S) of Coral Springs, FL, has agreed to distribute Lustra Professional Car Care Products including its full line of carwash chemicals, which includes the Ultraflex® System.
Mark Remillard, COO of Car Wash Equipment and Supplies, noted in the press release, "CWE&S is excited to partner with Lustra. Lustra is a premier chemical manufacturer that will allow us to continue to expand our business and allow us to build on our more than 40 years of success in the carwash industry."
• Goff's Enterprises Inc. of Pewaukee, WI, has been named to Inc. Magazine's 500|5000 list, which ranks the country's fastest-growing privately-owned companies. Out of the listed 7 million private companies, Goff's was ranked number 4,209.
"Many things have contributed to our continued successes including our incredible customers, our reliable distributors, and a trusted team of employees," stated President Tony Goff . "It is an honor to be recognized on this list with such an elite group of companies. I couldn't be happier with the achievements our company has made and the direction we are headed."
• Quixx of Miami, the makers of Quixx Headlight Restoration Kit, announced it will be making a donation to Wildlife Forever.
The company will donate $1 to Wildlife Forever for every person who buys a kit, likes their Facebook page and/or follows Quixx on Twitter this fall.
Consumers will be able to participate until December 21, 2011. Wildlife Forever's mission is to conserve America's wildlife through conservation education, preservation of habitat and management of fish and wildlife.
"As habitat changes, vehicle collisions with wildlife continue to rise. Any product that helps to protect us and saves our natural resources is a win-win conservation model," Douglas Grann, president and CEO of Wildlife Forever, said in a press release. "I wish I had used Quixx products years ago when a too close encounter with whitetail deer on a foggy night could have been avoided. Wildlife Forever is proud to work with Quixx on this partnership that protects our members, neighbors and wildlife for future generations."
• Ryko Solutions Inc. of Grimes, IA, announced it is setting up direct sales and marketing support in central and northern Florida and will discontinue its distributor agreement with Mid-Florida Distributing.
Chris Lee, who served as sales manager for Mid-Florida, will now work for Ryko in the Southeast United States sector.
Vice President of Sales John Gallo stated in a press release, "We are excited to bring Ryko Solutions' comprehensive program for building greater carwash profitability directly to customers in Central and Northern Florida. Our exceptional team on the ground — including Chris Lee and our existing service technicians — has decades of industry experience our customers have found invaluable in generating expanded revenue from their operations."
• National Pride Equipment of Ashland, OH, the maker of the 4 Paws Pet Wash, has joined the Rankine Racing team and will sponsor the 9 Racing USAC Ford Focus Midget.
Sponsoring the team, which in the past included Kasey Kahne, Mike Bills and Tony Stewart, gives the company a chance to promote its pet washing station. Ross Rankine, of New London, OH, started out at the age of seven and has been garnering attention for his racing prowess ever since.
• Innovative Control Systems (ICS) hosted a Performance and Profitability Seminar in Atlanta last August. President Kevin Detrick stated at the seminar that the most profitable carwash operators this decade will continue to drive down labor costs with technology upgrades, will seek to find new ways to create a more positive customer experience in their wash, and will be fully informed concerning the PCI compliance issues which seem to be in tremendous flux currently.
Along with Detrick, Brian Bath, vice president of sales, and Bill Myers, head of the ICS Technical Support Department, also addressed the 80 operators in attendance.
Noting the important, significant shift in consumer spending in recent years, and showing that carwash revenues have been declining for much longer, Detrick advised the attendees to eliminate every possible negative in their carwash process. If too many negative factors exist, customers will find another alternative to visiting a wash.
According to Bath, videos, custom graphics and catchy-looking decals help build brand recognition and also educate customers on the extra service choices they can purchase. And Myers discussed the best practices for operators to keep their pay stations in peak operating mode.
• Dosatron International Inc., which is based in Clearwater, FL, has named Jim Downing as its vice president of industrial sales.
Downing has sales experience spanning over the past 25 years in both the motor home and caravan industries.
A press release also stated that Downing will work in Dosatron's industrial applications division.
• The International Carwash Association® (ICA) launched a public-education campaign in Chicago to inform consumers about the environmental benefits of professional carwashing, especially the advantages of the association's WaterSavers® program.
The WaterSavers Tour – Go Pro for H2O campaign started in Atlanta last August and will continue to showcase the industry's commitment to water conservation and water quality at multiple major events.
Eric Wulf, CEO of ICA said in a press release, "Our goal is to inform consumers that they can keep their cars clean and live 'green' by avoiding driveway and pavement washing and using professional carwashes, especially WaterSavers® carwashes."
The group is introducing a new consumer-friendly WaterSavers website as well, the release noted. Visitors to the new website can register for a chance to win an iPad 2, search for WaterSavers carwashes in their area and take an informative quiz about carwashing.
• The Heartland Carwash Association Road Show took place in Kansas City, KS, September 18-19. The two-day event included a carwash tour, roundtable discussions, a keynote speaker and a sponsor showcase.
The keynote address was from Mike Wilson, owner of Wavelength Media, and was entitled, Driving Social Revenue: How to Utilize Social Networks to Drive Sales at Your Carwash.
