CarwashTV.com goes to Holland
Kyle Doyle, producer and host of CarwashTV.com, recently visited and filmed various carwashes in Holland and said he was impressed with what he saw. Doyle stated, “I had heard about the carwashes in Holland and thought it would be perfect content for www.carwashTV.com.”
Doyle, who visited the country at the end of last March, also said, “After spending some time at these washes, I really think these are some of the most impressive carwashes in the world. There is a real focus on quality, speed and customer experience, and I think that translates to great washes, many of which are washing more than 200,000 cars a year.”
Carlovers Carwash group goes under
The Queensland Supreme Court in Queensland, Australia, appointed a liquidator for the Carlovers Carwash group after the carwash chain fell into liquidation and receivership.
Carlovers Carwash’s majority shareholder, the Malaysian-controlled Berjaya Group, called in Ken Whittingham and Atle Crowe-Maxwell of PKF Chartered Accountants as receiver and manager.
Many have drawn a clear connection between the four-year administration of the company and yesterday’s formal close-down, but no one was prepared to comment while a question remained as to the legality of the liquidator’s appointment. PC&D previously reported on the administrator of Carlovers Carwash, Stuart Ariff, who was accused of using Carlovers’ funds for personal travel and extravagances.
President Obama forms gas price gouging task force
Per President Barack Obama’s request, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced the formation of the Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force Working Group which will focus on making sure gas stations aren’t committing unlawful consumer fraud.
The Group will monitor oil and gasoline markets and look into whether gas stations are manipulating gas prices.
“Rapidly rising gasoline prices are pinching the pockets of consumers across the country,” Holder said. “We will be vigilant in monitoring the oil and gas markets for any wrongdoing so that consumers can be confident they are not paying higher prices as a result of illegal activity.”
Ex-NBA star wants to start carwash empire in China
Stephon Marbury, who was a point guard with the Celtics and now plays for the Foshan Dralions of the Chinese Basketball Association in Guangdong, China, said mobile carwashes will be his next business venture.
Marbury said in an article for GQ magazine, “Mobile carwashes. Give these people a taste for being clean. I’m gonna get the schematics on that immediately.”
Touted as the biggest star in the Chinese Basketball Association, Marbury said the area in which he plays, which is known for being less than clean, is starting to grow on him.
“Man, China has changed everything for me. Everything. … I love the Chinese people. …This is one of the richest cities in China, and I’m here to be a part of it.”
Busting the electric car washing myth
An all-electric Nissan Leaf car owner in Bristol, England, went through a carwash to prove that electric cars can be safely washed by carwashes.
The manager noticed the zero emissions badge on the door of the car, and said, “Is that a hybrid? It’s electric? Fully electric? You don’t want to bring that in here. It could blow up!” The manager agreed to let the car enter the tunnel when the writer said she would accept all liability if her car malfunctioned.
The car went through the wash’s premium wash package, and it caused no damage. “No burning smells, no flashing lights and no puddles,” the writer said in the story.
Commission seeks to clean up charity carwashing
A commission in Dubuque, IA, is asking the City Council and fund-raising organizers to consider cleaning up charity carwashes’ impact on water quality.
“It’s unbelievable how many contaminants flow off of a car,” Wanye Klostermann, the commission chairman, said. “Oil, antifreeze, salt. Throw in the fuel and all that other stuff that’s stuck to a vehicle. How many times have you seen plumes of soap going right into the sewer? We just want to keep all of that stuff out of the sewer system.”
The commission is preparing a recommendation to the City Council asking organizations to notify the city in advance when and where their carwash is being held.
