The International Carwash Association plans to launch a virtual trade show with education opportunities for members of the carwash community.
The show is scheduled to take place online Nov. 16-20, 2005, and will be designed to provide a way for members to network via Internet without the costs of travel and accommodations to worry about.
In a statement to the media, the association's Executive Director Mark Thorsby noted that the virtual show is not intended to replace the sense of community and face-to-face interaction that members get each year at the Car Care World Expo, but added that the virtual show is planned to provide a "trade show" environment without the costs wash owners may normally have to spend on travel for employees.Investigators rule carwash death accidental
Investigators in Tampa, FL, assigned to the death of a woman who was struck in May by a vehicle at a local carwash have concluded that the carwash attendant was not at fault for the accident.
Densil Blake, a 50-year-old attendant at the Town & Country Car Wash, panicked when the Isuzu sport utility vehicle he was wiping down slipped out of neutral and rolled toward another customer.
The customer, Brenda Lee Brown, was pushing her toddler when she was struck and killed by the vehicle, while her toddler survived. Sheriff's detectives who investigated the incident have deemed it a terrible accident, but not a criminal act.
Blake will not face charges in connection with the incident. Brown's husband Mac Brown declined an interview request from the media, instead directing reporters to the Yerrid Law Firm where attorney Tammy Judge would not say whether or not Brown plans to file a civil suit against the wash.Carwash added to controversial Sam's Club
Wal-Mart has received a particularly cold welcome from numerous communities in the past, however, now a controversial Sam's Club, a subsidiary of the Wal-Mart group, is up against tough opposition regarding a new proposed site in Fayetteville, AR.
The issue that has created a hurdle for the big-box site involves the company's plan to sell liquor at the location. The proposed 135,000-square-foot Sam's Club will feature gas pumps and a carwash.Home Depot begins testing carwashes, c-stores
By December, customers in Nashville, TN, will be offered one-stop shopping at several Home Depot stores, which will begin to incorporate convenience stores and carwashes on-site.
The home improvement giant will test convenience store models in the parking lots of four Nashville Home Depots later this year.
Two of the stores will also have carwashes, and the c-stores will sell gasoline, milk, chips, beer and other convenience items.
