• John Antonis, previously the international manager of Jim Coleman Company/Hanna, has been named executive vice president of the Hanna division.

Antonis was previously a Hanna distributor in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1988, and a vice president of international sales for Hanna before it was acquired by JCC in 2005. He served as vice president of sales and marketing for Integrated Services from 1998 to 2001. He has also been a full-service carwash operator in southern California.

• NuStar, Inc. has two new programs that allow qualified businesses to obtain free carwash equipment, free chemicals and free service and repair.

The first program, called “Revenue Share,” allows the operator to negotiate and agree on a shared percentage before recieving the carwash equipment, installation, on-going maintenance, repair and chemicals for free.

The second program is called “Pay-per-wash.” The operator pays NuStar a flat rate for every car washed (generally between $1.99 and $3.99) by the new machine, which is installed and maintained for free. In addition, every six years the operator receives new equipment for free.

• Quick Quack Car Wash has launched its own app for iPhone and iPad users.

The company has 13 express exterior carwashes in California, Texas and Colorado.

The application allows would-be customers to find nearby Quick Quack locations, as well as receive exclusive mobile offers. The app will also allow the carwash chain to share news with its customers.

• Mark VII Equipment Inc., has announced two changes in its distribution network.

The U.S. subsidiary of WashTec AG of Germany acquired the assets of former PDQ distributor Advantek Inc. in June and will now directly service its customers in Toronto as part of a larger plan to directly service all of Canada.

Also, the company announced that Buddco Distributing acquired its former distributor Wash Pro Inc. and will now represent the company in Utah, Nevada and Idaho.

• Jiffy Lube University has been ranked 50th in the 11th Annual Training Top 125 Awards doled out by The Training Magazine.

The educational course is an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified training program.

The program was also recognized in March at the 11th annual Corporate University Xchange Awards where it received the Best Practice Award in the Branding category, for successes in developing and implementing innovative communication and branding strategies, as well as a Best Practice Award in the Launching category, for successfully creating a new corporate university.

• Mace Security International has closed on the sale of Classic Car Wash in Lubbock, TX, for $650,000, and entered into agreements to sell two others.

Mace was formerly one of the largest carwash operators in the nation and had more than 50 carwashes in its portfolio.

The company intends to sell its final Lubbock, TX, site, dba Crystal Falls Car Wash, for $1,700,000 (its book value), as well as a carwash in Arlington, TX, for $2,100,000 (about $100,000 over its book value).

The company completed its sale of the 1950s Classic Car Wash in Lubbock, TX, this June. The carwash had a book value of approximately $430,000. There was no outstanding debt on this carwash. Mace has four remaining carwashes in the Arlington and Fort Worth, TX, markets, one of which is under an agreement of sale for $625,000 dated Jan. 27, which is anticipated to close by June 30.

• ClosestCarWash.com, a new online directory specifically for the carwash industry, is now live.

The directory offers a way for carwash customers to compare price lists and carwash equipment of different sites, as well as check the weather forecast and receive weather alerts by text or e-mail when conditions are ideal for carwashing. The directory also features customer reviews, carwash coupons, and a way for customers to receive e-mails about specials and promotions at their favorite location. Carwash operators interested in test driving ClosestCarWash.com can do so from now until September 2010 for free.

• Washworld has added Northeast Car Wash Solutions to its distributor network.

Northeast Car Wash Solutions will cover western Connecticut, western Massachusetts and lower New York, including New York City. Owners Jim and Linda Reese and their 10 employees will be providing service for customers from their Prospect, CT, office. Washworld is a manufacturer of in-bay automatic carwash systems.

• Carlo Gavazzi Automation has opened a wholly owned national sales company in Mexico.

The company is a manufacturer of electronic automations, including some used in the carwash industry.

Carlo Gavazzi Mexico S.A. de C.V. is part of the company’s plans to expand globally. Victor Uribe has been appointed the National Sales Manager by Fred Shirzadi, president and CEO of Carlo Gavazzi North America. Auto Magic® has launched its new online e-Store at www.AutoMagic.com. New car care kits and special deals are available as well as technical data sheets for each product. The company is also giving away free samples of Cherry Bubbles Car Wash Soap with each first order.

• Neptune™ Chemical Pump Co., recently received recognition as an ISO 9001:2008 certified company.

This certification covers the design, manufacture and testing of Neptune’s metering pumps, controls and accessories, portable mixers, chemical and polymer-feed equipment and controls, water-treatment accessories, and steam and water-analysis systems.

• Planning for this year’s Grace for Vets event has begun.

Program directors hope to wash over 100,000 cars this Veteran’s Day, to be acknowledged on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Last year, over 500 participating washes cleaned nearly 60,000 cars for free to honor veterans across the country. Any carwash business owner interested in offering free services to veterans can participate. Interested operators can visit the Grace for Vets website, www.gracefotvets.org, to register and to access promotional material.

• HandStands has been recognized by Utah Governor Gary Hebert for its more than $500,000 in contributions to Operation Smile.

The company manufactures and distributes air fresheners. Operation Smile is an organization working worldwide to repair childhood facial deformities, such as cleft lip and cleft palate, by delivering safe, effective surgical care directly to patients.

• The Car Wash Operators of New Jersey (CWONJ) raised $5,000 for the Children’s Specialized Hospital, a pediatric healthcare rehabilitation system in the United States, during its annual golf tournament at Suburban Golf Club in Union, NJ, on June 14. The CWONJ has been supporting the efforts of the hospital, which has eight locations in New Jersey and treats more than 16,000 children each year, since 2004.

CWONJ members played 18 holes of golf, as well as enjoyed a buffet lunch and dinner and a “lively” raffle to raise money for the hospital. “The venue was outstanding, the weather was outstanding and the turnout was outstanding,” said Scott Freud, event chairperson. The winning foursome consisted of Scott Freud, Barry and Chris Hart and Pete DeFazio.
