Innovative Control Systems (ICS), a manufacturer of control systems, software and unattended POS devices for carwashes, has created two new positions to lead the deployment of ICS products and services into the self–serve and in–bay automatic markets.

Rob Deal, vice president corporate accounts, is responsible for the OEM, in–bay and self–service markets. Deal started his carwash career with Turtle Wax in 1990, and continued to positions at MacNeil Wash Systems and RYKO.

Thomas (Tom) Tuohy, vice president business services, will manage the inside sales function for all carwash market segments. Tuohy is also responsible for developing and managing the new industry–wide credit card program. He has over 20 years in business development in consumer products.

Joe O’Brien has been named the president of Zep East, one of eight market–facing businesses that Zep Inc., a manufacturer of cleaning and maintenance products, recently formed to achieve profitable growth by creating customer–focused organizations.

Before joining Zep, O’Brien was vice president of sales and marketing at Atlas Paper Mills, an away–from–home paper manufacturer and converter.

Bird–X, Inc, a supplier of bird and animal pest control solutions, some of which are used by the car care industry, has hired Dave Kogan as marketing manager.

Kogan coordinates and manages all the marketing functions for Bird–X, Inc and its subsidiaries including the management of their advertising, public relations, trade show management and SEO/web marketing.

Bird–X, Inc also celebrated the outstanding dedication of its warehouse manager, Joyce Dall, for 30 years of service.

Viking Pump, a manufacturer of rotary positive displacement pumps for use in the carwash industry as well as other major markets, has redesigned its website, www.vikingpump.com, with the consultant and engineer in mind.

The easy–to–navigate website includes an enhanced literature section, new engineering resources, search functionality and 3D pump models in for easy integration into custom system projects.

Viking Pump is a unit of IDEX Corporation based in Cedar Falls, IA.

DRB Systems, Inc. has signed an agreement with Radiant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: RADS) for the purchase of P1550 point–of–sale terminals, C700 customer displays and other related peripherals.

Under the agreement, DRB Systems will resell Radiant P1550 POS terminals, C700 customer displays and related peripherals to existing and future customers.

Atlanta–based Radiant Systems, Inc. is a global provider of point of sale hardware and software solutions to the hospitality, retail, and entertainment industries.

DRB Systems is a technology solution provider installed in more than 3,000 conveyorized carwash and quick lube locations.

Washworld, Inc. has announced the addition of two new distributors to its company: Automatic Excellence, Inc. in central Florida and Integrated Carwash Systems Corp. of Springdale, WV.

Automatic Excellence is already a distributor of chemicals and parts to central and west portions of Florida and will now add the Washworld High Velocity wash system to its full line of carwash equipment. Under the direction of President Dee Dix, the company has over 50 years of combined experience in distribution and carwash operations.

Integrated Carwash Systems Corp. is owned by Jamie and Angela Massuccy and provides a full range of services to the carwash industry, as well as a line of solar panels and wind turbines to provide customers with additional energy conservation choices.

D&S Car Wash Equipment Company, a manufacturer of in bay automatics, self–serve equipment and industrial vacuums, has appointed AUTOSpa Carwash Systems as a distributor in West Central and Northern Arkansas.

AUTOSpa has been servicing carwash operators in this market as an owner of D&S equipment for almost 20 years. They also represent a major line of chemical products for their carwash customers.

Zep Inc. (NYSE:ZEP) has launched its new Zep Professional product line focusing on the industrial distribution market and is now aligning with distributors to serve targeted market segments, including those in the car care industry.

The strategy began earlier this year with market studies, a new product strategy, and the creation of the Zep Professional brand.

Cleaning Systems, Inc., manufacturer of Lustra™ Professional Car Care Products, has named New England Car Wash Equipment (NECWE) the new provider of Lustra Professional Car Care Products throughout eastern New York and the New England region.

The company, based in Littleton, MA, provides complete carwash chemical sales and service programs to all segments of the professional carwash industry.


Association News

The Automotive Oil Change Association (AOCA) said David Saddler assumed the position of the association’s executive director beginning October 1, 2008.

Saddler comes to the association after working the past four years for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) in Arlington, VA. The last two years at AAMVA, Dave was a senior executive of the association and was responsible for a $3 million dollar budget and a staff of 11.

Prior to his position at AAMVA, Saddler was the associate executive director of the Security Industry Association from 1999 to 2004 and the director of communications at the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association from 1995 to 1999.

Former executive director Steve Christie remained with the AOCA for a few weeks after Saddler’s appointment to ease the transition.

The Australian Carwash Association has announced its next convention will be August 16–18 at Conrad–Jupiters, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

The ACWA holds the only carwash industry convention in Australia bi–annually, and the 2009 event follows a very successful 2007 convention.

American and international operators are invited to attend the show and expo. Details are available on the association’s website, www.acwa.org.

ACWA also welcomed Blendco, the carwash chemical supplier, as a new member of the association. Blendco joins PDQ as a valued ‘USA’ member.

The International Detailing Association (IDA) has named its first ever board of directors. The board includes:

The Midwest Carwash Association began hosting a monthly conference call tele–seminar for member operators and suppliers this October.

Tele&nash;seminars take place the third Thursday of every month at 10 a.m. EDT.

The topic for October’s tele–seminar was “Increase Your Average Ticket: The Key To Profitability.” The 60–90 minute session discussed ideas and suggestions for up-selling products and increasing the average ticket at a carwash.

Cleaning Systems, Inc. (CSI), a manufacturer of chemical products to the car care industry including the Lustra brand, has been recertified to ISO 9001:2000, an internationally recognized standard for quality management systems, according to a company press release.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, has established the requirements that must be in place for certification. CSI first achieved certification in 2001.

Certification to the standard is voluntary, and organizations must complete a rigorous auditing process by a third–party registrar.
