ConocoPhillips has agreed to buy US natural-gas producer Burlington Resources Inc. for $35.6 billion in cash and stock.

ConocoPhillips will pay $46.50 in cash plus 0.7214 of its own stock for each Burlington share.

The deal will bring ConocoPhillips, which has the third highest revenue for a U.S. oil company, within striking distance of Chevron, the second largest.

The deal boosts ConocoPhillips' US gas reserves, excluding Alaska, by 88 percent to 8 trillion cubic feet.

Meijer, a retail and grocery franchise, announced plans earlier this month to build a 207,000-square-foot supercenter with a carwash in Gaylord, MI.

The Grand Rapids-based company said that plans for the 140-acre lot also include a gas station.

Mister Car Wash has announced the acquisition of a new location in Cottage Grove, MN.

The location marks the 9th Mister Car Wash in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, and the 35th location for Mister Car Wash nationally.

Chevron Corp. saw its shares improve to $57.75 recently, up 38 cents on the New York Stock Exchange.

The increase comes after the company announced it has agreed to acquire the holdings of Societe Shell du Cameroun, including 49 service stations in that country and other assets.

Chevron already owns 84 Texaco-branded retail sites in Cameroon, a French and English speaking country on Africa's western coast.


The industry bids farewell to a veteran, Leon Hartman, of Lawrenceville, GA, who was born Dec. 5, 1940 and passed away Nov. 20, 2005.

Leon started in the carwash industry managing carwashes and then moved into equipment sales and installations.

Leon's company, Action Car Wash Solutions, was one of the first wash equipment suppliers in the state of Georgia and he was one of the original members of the Southeast Car Wash Association and was active in the industry until his passing in November.

Angie Ghandi, owner of Brite ‘n Shine Carwash, goes above and beyond the call of duty for her customers.

Ghandi has helped many customers overcome a fear of carwashes or “carwash phobia,” by getting into the passenger seat of the vehicle and guiding the customer through the carwash process.

Many of the customers helped by Ghandi have become regulars at her carwash, and she has even received gifts from people for the help.

Grease Monkey International has announced the company's top franchisee award winners for outstanding performance in 2005.

The Pursuit of Excellence Award was presented to Bill Dalton of Puget Sound Lubes in Seattle, and to José Luis Elizondo and Hipolito Elizondo of Auto Lub Mex de S.A. de C.V. in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, in recognition of leadership, community involvement, outstanding customer service and an overall commitment to excellence.

The President's Award was presented to Ron Morrow of ROSBRO, Corp. in Longmont, CO, and to Jaime Carrillo & Jorge Jaimes of Monkeylub De San Luis S.A. de C.V. in San Luis Potosí, S.L.P., Mexico, in recognition of excellence in marketing, operations, and an overall commitment to the Grease Monkey system.

The Car Care Council Women's Board has announced its 2006 executive board.

The board will be as follows:

  • President – Katie Noga, SKF Automotive Division;
  • Vice President – Becky Babcox, Babcox Publications;
  • Chair, Consumer Education – Ruth Ehlinger, AAA;
  • Chair, Recruitment & Retention – Judy Scholl, Jiffy Lube;
  • Chair, Scholarship Committee – Sherrie Graham, Northwood University;
  • Chair, Membership & Awards Committee – Lynn Konsbruck, Maximum Marketing Services; and

MacNeil Wash Systems, a designer and manufacturer of carwash systems, announced that Will Walters has been named national accounts manager.

Walters will be responsible for the continued development of relationships with carwash operators and corporate accounts operating on a national basis.
