GRESHAM, OR — ECO Car Wash here violated the city’s noise code 16 times in less than a year, KOIN reported.

The Feb. 17 story stated that neighbor Randy Schlicht filed his first complaint about ECO with the city in 2009. No action was taken until May 2011 when the city opened a case against the wash.

The city’s noise level code is 60 decibels during the day, and if the wash was found breaking the code it was assessed a penalty, the story noted. So far the fines total $14,850.

“It’s very unusual to have a business involved in a noise violation case,” said Laura Shepard, a city of Gresham spokeswoman. “These are usually neighbor to neighbor — someone's having a loud party.”

The city is working with the carwash’s owner to come up with a solution to the noise pollution. ECO’s CEO Joey Hanna said in the story that the city and the business were working to resolve the concerns of the wash’s neighbors.
