LAS VEGAS — The 2012 Car Wash Show™ is off to a good start as traffic on the showroom floor has been steady and attendees are remarking on the powerful keynote address by football legend Mike Ditka.
The show, which kicked off yesterday, May 7, at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, hosted educational sessions, some of which were standing room only. Show worker Marion Meyers, who helps with a lot of conventions, said of the showroom floor, "The voice level in here is up. There is a buzz in the air."
Monday night was the Welcome Reception hosted by Washworld. This morning there were more educational sessions and the keynote address was held before lunchtime. Before Ditka came out, International Carwash Association™ President Eric Wulf told the crowd that 2012 so far, has been a good year for the Association and the industry as well. He said numbers were up for both membership sign-ups and for their WaterSavers™ program. He also named the 2012 Car Wash Hall of Famer, Bill Martin of Metro Express Car Washes (Boise, ID), who got up and spoke to the crowd.
"This is very cool," Martin said of receiving the award. Martin thanked his family and his fellow carwashers and concluded his acceptance speech by saying, "In case I didn't make it abundantly clear: I love washing cars."
Next, Ditka came out to address the crowd. He started by admitting that he gets his car washed three times a week and loves visiting the carwash because of the friendly employees.
He went on to talk about the keys to success. He said to succeed, you have to set goals, reach goals and never be satisfied with less than perfect. "Whatever you've done, you can always to better," he said. "Successful people are very hard to satisfy."
He also told the crowd, "You people are the real people of the world. You're the backbone of America. You're what makes it go."
The Show™ wraps up tomorrow morning, and news of next year's show has already been made public; it will once again be held in Las Vegas, but will be held at the end of April. It will be the last show in Las Vegas as the one in 2014 will be held in Chicago.
