After a full week, I can finally slow down and confirm that I did, in fact, survive my first carwash trade show. Not only did I survive; I had one heck of a good time! My two hustling and bustling days on The Car Wash Show floor were packed to the gills with educational sessions, equipment displays and industry introductions.
Looking back at the show, my only real regret is that I couldn’t fit in more. Many times, as the PC&D team rushed from one booth to another, I would notice familiar company names. Having covered the industry for over a year now, I’ve interviewed numerous suppliers as well as carwash owners. I would make a mental note to return and thank my sources for all their help in person. Sadly, this rarely happened. Both days, before I knew it, the floor was closed and expo employees were vacuuming up all that spilt popcorn.
I won’t bore you with a long list of my sources here. But, please allow me to use this blog as a blanket “thank you.” I want to offer sincere thanks to everyone that has helped me over the past year. For each and every story I’ve been assigned, I’ve always found carwashing sources that were ready, willing and happy to assist. Trust me; this is often not the case in other industries.
And, honestly, that’s one of things that struck me the most about my carwash show experience – everyone was incredibly nice. Like ridiculously nice. From the laid-back dress code to the frequent jokes, I’ve never covered a friendlier, livelier and more colorful market.
Sure, the economy has had the industry on the ropes for the past couple of years. But rarely did I encounter bitterness or skepticism. Instead, I saw group of smart and savvy owners and operators learning and sharing information. And, from what I could tell, you guys and gals are just about ready to throw a few carwashing punches of your own.
With improving technology and global interest in carwashing, it looks like an interesting time is just over the horizon. And I’m especially happy that I’ll be here to write about it.
