State cracks down on dirty license plates
NEW ORLEANS ― Carwashes could benefit from Louisiana state's latest warning to residents to keep their license plates clean and legible, wwltv reported.
The July 31 story said police are cracking down on obscured license plates which can cause a public safety problem.
Trooper Nick Manale said in the story, “Over the last several months, we've received numerous complaints, not only from citizens and motorists, but from agencies across the state just complaining about obscured license plates. ...Obscuring a license plate can really be anything. It can be everything from a nasty, muddied up plate that's not even visible anymore to covers that get dirty or are mirrored or blurred or tinted."
So far, a dirtied plate is considered a primary offense, meaning police can pull over a car.
