Update: Boat stuck in tunnel caught on tape

August 21, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX ― The incident in which a man who caused around $175,000 in damages to the Island Car Wash here after he tried to drive his car and boat through the tunnel was caught on tape, kiii-tv reported.

The Aug. 17 story said the driver of a Mercedes SUV must have ignored the clearance sign and actually ended up hitting it with his boat in tow. He then pulled into the tunnel and his boat got caught on the machinery. He tried to pull it through and even got out of his SUV to see what was going on. He then got back into his vehicle and tried to pull it through a few more times. He eventually gave up and backed out of the tunnel and drove off.

The video, which can be seen here, gives a clear picture of both the vehicle and the man responsible.

The carwash owners are working with the police to try and find the culprit.

"I don't think he knew, honestly," Co-owner Mike True said in the story. "I don't think he knew, to begin with. I think it was a mistake, but once he hit the gantry, he should have known he couldn't go through. I don't think it was an intentional operation. He got himself in a situation he couldn't get out of."

The carwash will be out of business for at least 30 days, according to the washes other owner, Billy Farmer.
