Rust protection sales rise 30 percent

September 26, 2012

JAMESTOWN, NY — Ziebart International Corp. said reports show a 30 percent increase in rust protection sales since 2008, the Westfield Republican reported.

The Sept. 26 story stated that the increase may be due drivers keeping their cars and trucks longer than in previous years. Though the galvanized steel used in car manufacturing today is less susceptible to rust, it still has some weaknesses.

The thousands of welds used to hold a modern car together can frequently weaken the galvanization, and after a few years of exposure to road salt and salt air, these seams can begin to corrode.

Technicians at Ziebart evaluate the new car models, and they find and photograph vulnerable areas. Since salt-caused rust is not included in many car warranties, more customers are now turning to aftermarket rust proofers with better warranties to protect their investment.
