Law requiring carwashes to recycle water passed in CA

September 27, 2012

SACRAMENTO, CA —California Newswire reported that a California water-conservation bill drawn up by Democratic Assemblyman Mike Gatto was signed into law. The law states that all newly permitted carwashes must use at least 60 percent recycled water in their day-to-day operations.

The Sept. 25 story stated that California has been struggling for years to adopt a sensible water-conservation plan, and Gatto’s bill is a step in the right direction.

“The signing of this bill is another important step in water conservation,” Gatto said in the story. “Carwashes are among the biggest retail users of water. This bill will help us prevent water waste in the private sector, which will leave safer, clean drinking water for Californians.”

According to the story, 25 percent of carwashes in California already have the equipment to comply.
