Large c-store operator buys 2,300 European stations

October 22, 2012

LAVAL, QUBEC, CANADA — A c-store chain operator here recently purchased the Statoil Fuel and Retail (SFR) brand that controls 2,300 service stations in Scandinavia, the Baltic states and Poland, The Vancouver Sun reported.

Carwash/c-store approval includes 19 conditions

The Oct. 18 article stated that Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. already oversees one of the largest corner-store empires in the world. In North America, the company runs Mac’s and Circle K c-stores.

According to the story, SFR stations are modern, clean and well-lit, and the carwashes are standard and busy. Still, an analyst stated that the chain’s stores are too spacious, labor could be used more wisely and the bathrooms in some SFR locations are too nice for c-stores.

Wash’s c-store converted to Mobil brand

Currently, Couche-Tard executives are holding town hall meetings with SFR workers in Scandinavia. Also, SFR managers are visiting Couche-Tard operations in North America to see how they operate. The story said, “A joint benchmarking process is underway.”
