‘Gang crime’ police squad raids detail shop
WELSHPOOL, AUSTRALIA — A car detailing shop was raided by police who uncovered a car rebirthing operation here, The West Australian reported.
The Oct. 30 story stated that a private residence was raided in nearby Kewdale as well. Police towed away four Toyota Prados from the private residence and inspected three Prados at the detail shop.
Officers from the gang crime squad, on behalf of the serious and organized crime division, executed the search warrants on the two properties.
It appears the locations were involved in purchasing wrecked Prados. Then, other Prado cars were stolen and stripped to illegally rebuild the vehicles. After being rebuilt, the cars were sold privately, many through online classified websites.
According to the story, the police operation began after a number of drivers reported purchasing “lemon” cars from the criminals.
