Council looks to bring carwash owner to court
COBHAM, ENGLAND — Lawyers working for the Elmbridge Borough Council are looking to bring the owner of a car park here to court, getSurrey reported.
The Jan. 11 story stated that the authority has sent numerous letters to the landowner, and now officers feel prosecution is the only remaining option. There has been a battle to stop the carwash’s operation in a hotel parking lot for many months.
The council said the business does not have the right to use mechanical washing, vacuuming or motorized equipment. Further, the wash is not supposed to have adverts up and it is supposed to clean up all equipment at the end of the day.
One resident complained that he has been looking at the equipment at the wash since May. “It has been waking me up at weekends and the council has been doing absolutely nothing,” Martin Watson, a neighbor of the carwash, said in the story.
A spokesman for Elmbridge Borough Council said in the story, “Instructions have been sent to legal services and the matter is now being progressed by them in arranging prosecution proceedings in court against the landowner for non-compliance with conditions four and five on the planning permission relating to the two issues – mechanical equipment being used and not clearing away at the close of play each day.”
