April 1, 2013

ABERDEEN, OH — The owner of Blue Jay Car Wash here has worked at the business for 50 of his 57 years, The Ledger Independent reported.

The March 29 story stated that Jay Barbour began working for his father at the wash when he was 7 years old. His first job was washing towels, and his mother bought him special overalls to wear at the wash.

The wash will celebrate its milestone on April 5 and 6 with $5 exterior washes available all day on Friday. On Saturday, customers can get $5 off a super saver wash and there will be drawings for prizes donated by local businesses. One prize is a $500 Blue Jay Car Wash gift card.

Barbour's father Wendall "Blue" Barbour opened the wash for $60,000 in 1963. Prior to opening the wash, he owned a Standard Oil Gas Station.

After washing cars behind the station, Barbour realized he made more money washing cars than selling supplies and parts.
