Convenience stores see growth
According to MediaPost.com, convenience stores are growing in both dollar and unit sales.
The article cites an IRI report which found there are now 149,000 convenience stores in the Unites States and roughly two-thirds are independently owned.
The report indicates that tobacco sales are down by about 50 percent since 1965, but are still a huge revenue stream accounting for $52 billion in sales.
Locations have seen a double-digit unit and dollar growth in energy drink sales but sharp declines in bottled water sales.
