Youbou residents oppose money for truckwash

July 3, 2013
YOUBOU, BC, CANADA – Logging company TimberWest has come under fire from local residents for kicking up dust from their logging trucks. Residents in the Youbou community have complained to the Ministry of Transportation who instead shifted the responsibility to the CRVD Nature and Habitat Fund Advisory Committee.

The CVRD recommended giving TimberWest $5,000 toward the construction of a truck wash which could minimize the dust.

“They don’t need our contributions, it’s their dust. They’re making all the money,” Youbou resident Wayne Hughes said in the Cowichan News Leader story. “I don’t think the people want anything to do with ownership of a truck wash, we shouldn’t have to.”

Emails from government officials sent to residents indicate they did not find the mud and debris to be an issue.
