Convenience store competition heats up in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD — Convenience store chains are aggressively expanding in the Comeback City as Royal farms, Wawa and 7-Eleven are rushing to build new stores and remodel existing ones according to The Baltimore Sun story.

"People want more convenience, and it just continues to escalate," Jeff Lenard, spokesman for the National Association of Convenience Stores said in the article. "The reason that you're seeing growth of convenience stores is … people are continually redefining convenience.”

Convenience stores topped $700 billion in sales last year as many stores added fast food to their offerings.
