July 22, 2013
HUNTINGTON, NY — The Huntington Town board is considering further changes to convenience store regulations.

According to the Newsday story, the town board approved code changes in June 2011. Those changes require convenience stores to have a special use permit and outlines that they must be located on lot sizes of 25,000 square feet and 25 feet from residential properties. Stores must also have landscaped buffers and one parking space for every 150 square feet of floor space.

7-Eleven has filed a lawsuit against the town, which is still pending.

The new rules would prevent convenience stores from operating in shopping centers with less than 10,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
