Carwashes ordered to pay over $300,000 in back wages
Department of Labor Community Outreach Coordinator Jesus Olivares said employees were on the job 40 hours a week and were only paid for 25 to 30 hours.
“The employees were not allowed to leave the establishment,” Olivares said in the Arizona Daily Star story. “The employees were told, ‘You’re going to wait here until more cars arrive, and then we’ll put you back on the clock.’ ”
The review also found one of the carwashes was working three teenagers, aged 14 and 15, more than eight hours a day – a violation of federal labor laws.
