District council denies carwash signs

October 15, 2013
ILMINSTER, SOMERSET, ENGLAND — A carwash owner’s bid to display advertising signs was refused by the South Somerset District Council.

Thisisthewestcountry.co.uk reports that carwash owner Inga Marcinkoniene relies heavily on passing cars for business and applied to display signs with the Council. They rejected the application on the grounds the signs would be a distraction and “impact negatively on the area’s character.”

Marcinkoniene paid £110 fee at the time of the application.

“We still have three years on the lease and our landlord is supportive, but the council isn’t helping us,” she said in the story.

She has also decided to appeal the decision.
